Christmas (themed books) come early...
 Oooh, Lisa Kleypas is releasing another holiday-themed novella (after 2008's A Wallflower Christmas). Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor will be out in late October, and appears to be the first entry in a new series of contemporary novels set on Washington State's San Juan Island. I'm a little surprised she's kicking off a series with a novella, but Kleypas always delivers, and let's face it: sadly, 224 pages* from her are likely to be more satisfying than full-length books written by 90% of her peers. *Featuring large font and generous spacing. Smooth Talking Stranger, by Lisa Kleypas
 Smooth Talking Stranger is the third book in Lisa Kleypas's best-selling series about the wealthy, powerful, Houston-based Travis family. Kleypas's current heroine is Ella Varner, author of the popular "Miss Independent" advice column. Ella has spent years struggling to bury the ghosts of her unhappy childhood, so when she becomes the unwilling guardian of her flighty sister's newborn baby, she decides to hunt down the child's father—rumored to be real estate mogul Jack Travis—and demand that he step up to the plate. The course of true love never runs smoothly in romance novels, but Jack and Ella have an easier time of it than most. There are several obstacles in the path of their inevitable happily-ever-after (including Ella's troubled past, Jack's seductive ex-girlfriend, and a grab-bag of emotional hang-ups), but these are still two intelligent, unattached, relatively stable individuals who totally dig each other. Their sweet, family-oriented love affair moves briskly forward, and the obstacles are booted off the page with a minimum of fuss. An embarrassment of riches
 Whoa, what happened? Lisa Kleypas has been releasing the books in her Hathaway family series on a once-a-year schedule since 2007, but now she's putting the last two books out within a month of each other. Naturally, we're happy to see them (the more Kleypas books the merrier, as far as we're concerned), but did she, like, get sick of the Hathaways? Does she have a new idea sucking up all her imagination? Or is she just bored with writing historicals? Inquiring minds want to know. Anyway, you can read excerpts from both books on Kleypas's website if you need something to tide you over. Enjoy! P.S. Also, why'd they change the style of the cover art?! The first three books featured posed shots of women's bodies in richly-colored 19th century dresses. I wasn't a huge fan, but I *definitely* prefer them to this duller-than-dirt pile of letters, which makes it look like a Julia Quinn book... or something that belongs in an Easter basket. New Lisa Kleypas sneak peek
 For those of you reading Lisa Kleypas's excellent "Hathaways" series, she's posted a sneak peek of the next installment, Tempt Me at Twilight. Still no American cover art*, but I'm interested to see that the book focuses on Poppy rather than Leo. (Maybe his romance will just get shoehorned in somewhere...?) Either way, the excerpt is fun. Kleypas has been setting up the mysterious Harry Rutledge as a character for some time now, so it's nice to finally see him. *The cover art featured on the right is for the British edition. Kleypas news
 There's a title and release date out for the next book in Lisa Kleypas's Hathaways series: according to Amazon, Tempt Me at Twilight will be out on September 29th. We're still waiting on the cover art and summary, but I'm assuming this is the story of Leo (the oldest and only male Hathaway) and the younger girls' governess. Looking forward to it! Zzzzzzz....
 Lisa Kleypas has finally overhauled her website, and I'm surprised to say that I'm kinda sad about it (and not just because I'm now going to have to re-edit her author profile). Sure, we thought that the old website was insane, but at least it was interesting and insane. This one is 1000% more tasteful, but it's also duller than dirt. And no, we're never happy. New website
So, it looks like Meg Cabot has launched a new website layout...  I am pretty sure I liked the site much better before this latest redesign. It had this fun, bubblegum pink look and feel to it. The new site, on the other hand, gives off a very "marketing focus group" vibe that really doesn't work for me. Still, this site is still a million times better then Lisa Kleypas's site. Oh, the humanity.
 Nobody could be more excited than I was about Lisa Kleypas's upcoming contemporary romance novel, Sugar Daddy. Sure, I was a little taken aback by the title, but still: Lisa Kleypas. She's, like, super-awesome! She's absolutely the best historical romance novelist currently producing work, and I was delighted to hear that she was planning to expand her literary horizons. Then, sadly, I saw the cover art. WHHHHHHYYYY???? The colors! The little cowboy hats! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Combined with that mildly squicky title, that cover art is deadly. (Although, to be fair, I do like the Art Deco-y font....) Ms. Kleypas had a chance here to expand her audience to include all of those women who are too weak-kneed to actually enter the romance section, but that pink and yellow monstrosity may well have blown it.
