Movies not getting made (part I)

Disney confirmed last week that they have declined to co-produce and co-finance The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader... and not, apparently, because the first two movies they'd made were poorly scripted and incredibly violent, but because of "budgetary and logistical reasons".

Sorry, Ben Barnes fans. The future of the Narnia series is now in doubt, if not totally DOA. But I hear he might turn up in one of the future Twilight films (and you can bet money those will get made), so at least you have that to, uh, look forward to.

We've got movie news coming out of our ears.

Media blog Buzzsugar has posted a ton of literary film-adaptation news in the past few days:

*Children's book illustrator Gris Grimly will be directing a movie adaptation of Pinocchio, based on a book version he illustrated in 2002. Guillermo Del Toro will serve as executive producer, and the Jim Henson Co. is creating the stop-motion animation.

*Apparently, Walden Media hopes to greenlight Voyage of the Dawn Treader, (the third Chronicles of Narnia movie) "soon". I'm kind of surprised to hear it isn't a done deal already. Didn't the first two movies make decent money?

*Aaaaand there's a new trailer out for the upcoming adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons's mid-eighties classic comic book series Watchmen.
There's a bunch of posts on there about Twilight and Quantum of Solace, too, but I figure they don't need any more promotion, so I'm skipping 'em.

There's a fine line between optimism and stupidity...

...and I frequently find myself walking it. After all, it's not like I enjoyed the first Narnia film adaptation, but I have a sinking feeling I'll end up seeing the second one. Click here for the official site.

But you know what's what's even sadder? I'll probably end up seeing it in the theater. (I know, I know: I'm weak-willed.)

Maybe I'll try to think of my ticket as a $10 tax on bad judgment.
