Do these cost actual money?

I keep hoping that someday, someone will produce a book trailer that doesn't look like something put together by a tech-savvy ninth grader with fundamentally bad taste:

Judging by this effort (the random graphics, the inexplicable saxophone solo, the general cheese, etc.), that day is still far, far off.

So dorky, seriously.

My standards are not high when it comes to book trailers, but this one—it's for James Patterson and Maxine Paetro's Private, and a slightly longer version is currently popping up on Hulu—is particularly weird. The first bit feels straightforward (and looks relatively high-budget), but by the end of the spot I was waiting for the punchline. I have yet to see one of these trailers that I actually enjoy, but this sucker seems even more embarrassing than most.

Clutch the pearls!

Behold, it's the book trailer for Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, our current Featured Book:

I refrained from complaining about this in the review, because even I understand it's an awfully minor point, but I'm pretty sure cameos were more of a Victorian fad than a Regency one....

The Forest of Hands and Teeth book trailer

Okay, as book trailers go, this one isn't too bad, actually:

And isn't it a relief to know that eyeliner is still available, even after the zombie apocalypse?

Genius Squad: the non-movie

Check this out--it's a video trailer for our current featured book, Catherine Jinks's Genius Squad:

No Australian accents, and some seriously implausible hair, but--all things considered--this trailer is actually less hokey than most.
