Literary casting round-up: sci-fi, fantasy, and The Great Gatsby
Lots of book-to-movie casting news coming out recently:Leonardo DiCaprio has apparently read for the role of Jay Gatsby in the still-up-in-the-air adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
Martin Freeman (best known for his role in the British version of The Office)is set to star as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.
There are rumors that Colin Farrell will be starring in the remake of Total Recall, the (terrible) 1990 movie based on Philip K. Dick's story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.

Philip K. Dick heads to the big screen... yet again.
According to TheHollywoodReporter, the next Philip K. Dick novel to score a film adaptation will be his 1974 novel Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. I've never read this book, but the article includes a brief description:
"Set in a futuristic, dystopian world, Tears is the tale of a celebrity who wakes up after an assassination attempt to find no one has ever heard of him."Sounds... delightful?

Hollywood hearts Philip K. Dick

While some Philip K. Dick purists are convinced that the author is probably spinning in his grave over the casting of poor Keanu, I remain open-minded about this movie. It's directed by Richard Linklater, after all, and it doesn't star Tom Cruise. Those are two major advantages that not every Dick adaptation can boast, right?
