Bruce: The Great and Powerful

Okay, the odds that I'll see the upcoming Oz: The Great and Powerful movie just went way up. According to his Twitter feed, Bruce Campbell is going to be in it. I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to see him as a Munchkin.

The joys of legalese

For those of you interested in the nine(!) Wizard of Oz-related film projects currently in development, there's an interesting Hollywood Reporter article about Warner Bros.'s recent legal victory granting them copyright protection for "all visual depictions" of the characters portrayed in their 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz.

Movie magic

Rumors are rampant that Robert Downey Jr. will be starring in a movie prequel to the Wizard of Oz series.

I wonder if Johnny Depp is upset that Downey is now sufficiently clean and sober to provide some competition for all those dark-haired, half-hot, half-weird dude roles, or happy someone's there to share the load?

Literary hipster bargains

I was in Urban Outfitters earlier this week, and it was positively bursting with bargain-book goodness. There were piles of those Hard Case paperbacks for $1.99, fun-looking kids' books for around five bucks, and $10 "Reading Rainbow" t-shirts. I picked up this truly creepy-looking copy of The Wizard of Oz for $4.99:

The story is unabridged, and Graham Rawle's pictures are amazing, so I'm stoked.

Welcome to the O.Z.

Pros:
I have a total girl crush on Zooey Deschanel, and I like the concept of updating The Wonderful Wizard of OZ.

Cons:
Unfortunately, this trailer looks like 100% pure Velveeta.
