Out with the old

The Barnes and Noble store in Seattle's University Village recently closed, and the Seattle Times is reporting that the furniture chain Room & Board is going to fill at least part of the (enormous) vacancy. I'd never heard of Room & Board, so I looked it up. Most of their stuff is A) way out of my price range, and B) not my style, but I did quite like these pillows, inspired by classic European comic book characters:

Not enough to shell out $49 apiece, naturally. But if they ever went on sale for, say, $19.99 I'd probably be tempted.

No way, no how

It will be a sub-zero day in hell before I spend $45 on a candle, but these little gems from Assouline Publishing promise to evoke the "atmosphere of your fantasy library, and the pleasure of reading, through the enigmatic scent of paper".

Sadly, my biggest library fantasies involve books that don't smell like 90-year-old chain smokers and don't have pages sealed shut with mystery stains. Clearly, I have no soul.

Smelling like Charles Dickens

Artisan candlemaker Paddywax has released a line of author-inspired candles. At $25 per 9oz. glass container, you can now scent your home with candles named after Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, and Charles Dickens. I'm assuming the scents aren't inspired by the authors themselves (something tells me that ol' Edgar A. Poe didn't always smell like a delicate blend of cardamom, absinthe, and sandalwood), but rather by the themes of their work.
