The New York Times has an obituary up for Tasha Tudor, a well-known children's book illustrator who died last Wednesday at age 92. Tudor was a famously colorful character who chose to live as though she had been transported back to the 19th century. (She claimed to be the reincarnation of a sea captain’s wife who died in the 1840s, and that her old-fashioned lifestyle was an effort to replicate her earlier life.)Tasha Tudor is best remembered for her illustrations for Clement C. Moore's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and several titles by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I never knew her books. I was most fascinated with her life and the way she lived as if it were the 19th century.

Doesn't she sound awesome? I can't decide if she was crazy like a bedbug or crazy like a fox--there are a lot of children's book illustrators out there, after all, and while I'm not exactly doubting her reincarnation story it certainly added a little star power to her work, you know?
