So very unnecessary

Remember how creeped out everyone was by that sorta-realistic-looking animation technique they used to film the The Polar Express? Well, they've made an equally disturbing adaptation of Berkeley Breathed's Mars Needs Moms:

...yep. Still creepy.

Poverty, here I come.

Speaking of things that make my world a better place, I have long been excited about the upcoming complete collection of Berkeley Breathed's Bloom County strips. Behold:

But what's with this "Volume One" stuff? That seems to indicate that there's going to be more than one, and we're going to have to wait even longer and pay an additional $39.99 for the rest of 'em. And how many will there be? This sucker only covers '80 to '82, and I'm pretty sure Bloom County ran until '89... which means I could be much, much poorer by the time this "complete collection" is actually complete.

Summer reading picks straight from the source!

Salon.com has asked a variety of authors, including Wordcandy-approved authors like Neil Gaiman, Berkeley Breathed, and Diana Gabaldon, for their summer reading picks, some of which are actually pretty great.

Berkeley Breathed goes to the movies

I was reading Go Fug Yourself yesterday afternoon, and I was so sorry to see that the adorably diminutive Seth Green has done something horrifying to his hair.

(I'm sorry, Mr. Green, but no one is that cute.)

However, I did notice that he claims to have done this because of a role--a role in a film adaptation of Berkeley Breathed's Mars Needs Moms!

Exciting news, huh? I had no idea this sucker was in the works.

'Bloom County' fans rejoice

Thanks to the fine people at IDW Publishing, fans of the classic comic strip Bloom County are about to have a dream realized: a high-quality, five-volume-long collection of nearly two years' worth of daily and Sunday strips.

From the press release:

“Fans have pestered me for years,” said Berkeley Breathed, “for this ultimate Bloom County collection in that polite, respectful badgering way that only fans can manage. Thank God I can now tell them something better than just ‘please remove your tent from my lawn.’ I can say, ‘It’s coming!”
Hmm. As a lifelong Bloom County fan, I'm sorry to say this, but the honorable Mr. Breathed comes off as a bit smug, doesn't he?
